Lana, South Tyrol, Italy – The Lana pumping station, after more than 20 years of operation, underwent a general overhaul in April 2020. The station, tasked with wastewater collection and handling raw sewage, faced the challenge of replacing its existing pumps without any design or structural modifications. The old pump had provided reliable service throughout the entire period of operation, with little service and no maintenance work at all. However, due to extensive wear of the wearing parts, the pump efficiency dropped dramatically, and power consumption increased accordingly.
The operator's requirements included the use of the latest, highly efficient Hidrostal pumps, aiming for higher overall efficiency, reduced energy consumption, and lower life cycle costs.
Solution and Implementation
Hidrostal responded by supplying three new Immersible Screw Centrifugal Pumps with self-cooling. These pumps featured the new TUMA motors with IE3 efficiency class, marking a first in the Hidrostal Group's history. While retaining the type and basic design of the hydraulic units, an adjustable version was introduced to compensate for wear. In addition, the frequency converter had to be replaced.
Key Benefits
Higher IE3 motor efficiency class: The new TUMA-motor, in the higher efficiency class IE3, has a significant higher efficiency than the old one.
Huge Energy Savings: The new pump, with its restored and well-known very high efficiency, together with the higher motor efficiency, made savings in electricity consumption up to over 30%.
Seamless Integration: The identical hydraulic design allowed the new pumps to be installed without any structural modifications.
Reliability and Safety: The new Hidrostal pump meets the customer's high standards, ensuring high reliability and operational safety.
The Lana pumping station's overhaul exemplifies the successful integration of advanced technology to achieve environmental and economic benefits. Even after 4 years in operation, energy savings remain substantial. The adoption of the TUMA-motor in the IE3 efficiency class demonstrates Hidrostal's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.
